Gypsy and traveller families – film launch

Gypsy and travelling families

Latest film released

Great news! The latest of the Missing Voices films is released today, featuring the gypsy and traveller families community in Wiltshire.

This powerful 30 minute film is the latest from the Wiltshire Voices series and features the views of a rarely heard community group. The film addresses a range of important issues including education, work, health and crime. The participants talk candidly about a life on the road – the good things, the challenges and the difficult public perceptions that they encounter in their everyday life. The film is an upbeat counterpoint to the flurry of mass media films featuring the community – giving a balanced view of life as it is for most travelling families.

If you have a few moments spare, why not watch this film. It is bound to change the way you think.

Wiltshire Voices is a social inclusion project run by Wiltshire Council.  It aims to bring the voices of marginalised and minority groups into the policy development process.  This is one of thirteen films commissioned by the Council and it gives a candid and honest view of life for this community group.  The film is not mediated, features no opposing views and focuses on the shared concerns within the community.  It is intended to help decision makers plan and deliver social policy interventions that address the issues raised and it is a first step in the empowerment of the group – leading to community-led projects and initiatives.  The success of previous projects suggests that empowered communities can do more for themselves than is normally considered possible.   You can read more about this project and view our other films on this site.
